Quantum's vision

Quantum- Vision

Quantum is an experimental creative outlet fuelled by the local climbing scene. Utilising innovative and upcycled materials, Quantum's ambition is to create rad and unique climbing tech in our local workshop. We source various retired materials from all over New Zealand, keeping sails, canvas, tents, paragliders and climbing rope from landfill.

Our goal is promote the circular economy by designing unique handmade climbing tech while we explore and document the New Zealand climbing scene. 

Our vision is drawn from the local basin Kura Tāwhiti, a place we are privileged to experience. These formations are some of the country's most unique and delicate limestone. It formed around 30 million years ago when the area was submerged under a shallow sea, and layers of marine sediment, largely shell and coral fragments, compacted into limestone, which was later uplifted, fractured, and sculpted by wind and rain erosion into the distinctive boulder formations seen today. This makes the stone extremely susceptible to polishing. Local etiquette encourages visitors to keep clean boot rubber and the use of spray bottles to wash excess chalk rubber after climbing.

Our logo spells "Quantum," named after Quantum Field, the area's most popular tourist and bouldering sector. This inspired the original Quantum logo: each letter is traced directly from the outline of the south-facing rocks, with the boulders themselves forming each letter.

Various other designs, such as our rock spiral, are drawn from a physical rock spiral found at the centre of Quantum Field; an exact outline of the spiral as seen facing east.
