Rope Upcycling Program

At Quantum, we believe good gear deserves a second life. That's why we run our rope upcycling program — taking retired climbing ropes and turning them into something new. Belts, keychains, camera straps, chalk bags, and more.

How It Works

If you have an old climbing rope that's been retired from service, we want it. Rather than seeing it end up in landfill, we'll break it down and craft it into a new product. We currently work with dynamic climbing ropes and are always expanding what we can do with different materials.

For every rope donated over 20m, we'll send back a product made using that very rope - so a piece of your climbing history lives on in something you can use every day. For shorter lengths, get in touch and we'll work something out.

What We Accept

We work with a wide range of retired and surplus materials, including:

  • Dynamic climbing rope
  • Sailing sails
  • Canvas
  • Old tent material
  • Nylon fabrics and materials

Not sure if what you have qualifies? Send us a message anyway — if we can find a use for it, we will.

Getting Involved

Reach out via email at notify.quantum@gmail.com or send us a message on Instagram at @quantum_nz and we'll sort out the details from there. We cover all shipping costs — just send through a photo of your receipt and we'll reimburse you. We're based in New Zealand and welcome donations from across the country.

Every rope that comes through the program is one less ending up in a skip bin.
